Born in Valbom, Filomena Sousa soon fell in love with Fado. At the age of six, by influence of her parents, also lovers of Fado, she used to try, in home shows, to imitate fadistas such as Amália Rodrigues, Lucília do Carmo or Beatriz da Conceição.
She made her debut in Fado competitions shortly afterwards, winning the third place in Grande Noite de Fado da Casa da Imprensa – a prize that earned her recognition among the peers and led her to performances in the most prestigious houses of Fado of the North of Portugal.
Her voice "hoarse with soul" and his "fado claw" were also presented, over the years, in live events held in shopping centers and in hotel units, and not even the foreigner countries escaped to the Filomena Sousa’s talent, who frequently took the Portuguese culture abroad.
In parallel to her career as a Fado singer, Filomena also shone as an actress in theater, having stepped on stages such as Teatro Sá da Bandeira and Teatro Rivoli.
Currently, it is a frequent presence in tourist cruises, and Fado in Baixa is the latest challenge with which she commits herself body and soul, as in everything she does.
